‘Police’ Arrested For Allegedly Defrauding A Man Of ₦385,000 In Lagos

A former officer of the Nigeria Police Force was on Thursday, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding a man to tune of ₦385,000 in Lagos.
The suspect, Alexander Ilesanmi, who is said to have been dismissed from the force since 2010 as a CP, reportedly pretended to be an ASP to the complainant and dubiously obtained the said amount from him.

Naija News understands that Ilesanmi had obtained the money in pretext of securing a police job for the unsuspecting victim.

The 48-year-old former cop, however, pleaded not guilty to the crime when appeared before Court on today.

The prosecutor, Insp Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the defendant impersonated an assistant superintendent of police and collected ₦385,000 from one Mr Samuel Akporherhe on the pretext of getting him a job.

Nomayo said the ex-cop committed the offences with others still at large in October 2020 and November 2020 at the Police College, Ikeja.

“The defendant, who was dismissed from the force since 2010 as a CP, disguised as an ASP to the complainant and obtained the money from him,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the offences violated Sections 77, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Delivering Judgment, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fajana, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 22 for mention.
