Massive Reactions as Photo of Beetle Car Sold for N3,908 with Receipt Emerges Online

A Nigerian man, Ayo Ojeniyi, has taken people on a trip down memory lane after sharing a photo of a Beetle car that was sold for N3,908.40 in 1982. Ojeniyi also shared the receipt of the car purchase and had a question for people, what can one buy with such an amount of money today.

Reacting to the photo, a Facebook user identified as Aliyu Hamagam said the minimum wage in 1982 was N120, suggesting that a Beetle car was expensive back in the day. In his words: “In 1982, the national minimum wage was only N120. So you can understand what it means for one to raise about N4000 for a Beetle car.

But today, thats what an average labourer earns at a construction site per day. “There are more rich people today than we had in 1982.”
