Nigeria’s Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has debunked reports of his request to the the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to shutdown BBNaija Season 5 over Covid-19 fears. Earlier in the week, reports filtered in that a directive had come from the Minister for the broadcasters of the show MultiChoice Ltd. to suspend the activities of the BBnaija Season 5 for flouting safety protocols to combat the spread of the infection.
MultiChoice Ltd however, interacted with the NBC and made them to understand that they sought for the green light from the Lagos State government in line with the Covid-19 protocols to ensure a conducive and safe show before they commenced.
Reacting to the news, Segun Adeyemi who is Lai Mohammed’s media aide has released a statement to debunk the claims as false.
Adeyemi said “That statement is not credited to the minister. We will not dignify speculative reports; if a minister issues a directive, it will not be issued verbally. “There’s going to be a memo to that effect that he will send; anybody that is sure that the minister made that statement should provide a memo.”
