Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has described the tithe Abraham paid as recorded in the book of Genesis as a corporate tithe and not a personal tithe
He made the observation in a message on Sunday, July 5 posted on his Facebook wall monitored by Church Times.
In the message titled, biblical key to business breakthrough, Oyedepo stated that both corporate and personal tithes are important in enhancing one’s financial breakthrough in life.
He said Abraham paid tithe after fighting a war. According to him, the tithe that Abraham paid to Melchizedek was the tithe of his company of 318 warriors. He then explained that for any business to experience breakthrough from the Bible standpoint, the owner of the business must pay the corporate tithe of such business.
Citing the example of John Rockefeller, the first acclaimed millionaire in the US, he said ‘Rockefeller when celebrating his 52 birthday parted with 50 per cent of his stakes in business to bless humanity.
‘He lived to the age of 93. The larger your heart is for God the longer you will live. Rockefeller gave 140 million dollars to the education funds of his Church. He was churchwarden three times despite his status.’
He said further that anybody who wants to succeed in business as believers must remain committed to kingdom advancement and they must maintain a joyful heart. ‘Let your joy and rejoicing become your lifestyle. Recognise that everything will multiply with thanksgiving’ he said.
Oyedepo stressed also that an encounter with the word of God will always stir a breakthrough. Citing the story of Peter, he said When Peter obeyed the words of Jesus to put the net at the right side, he experienced a breakthrough in his fishing business”
While noting that churches are expected to also pay tithe he said, ‘An encounter with the word led to the boat-sinking, net-breaking breakthrough that Peter experienced. You must seek first the kingdom of God. Pursue his kingdom. Be committed to his word and the covenant of tithing. And then you will experience a breakthrough’
Earlier in the message, he said in these last days prosperity shall be one of the core identities of the child of God saying believers should not be worried about persecution.
‘It takes a man with a strong position to have opposition. Persecution is proof of your strong position. Backbiting is the lot of front-liners’ he said.
