Serving Senator’s wife dies in Abuja

Hajiya Halima, the wife of a serving senator from Kano State, Kabiru Gaya, is dead.

Our correspondent learnt that the wife of the former governor of Kano State might have died as a result of coronavirus-related complications at the National Hospital Abuja on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has commiserated with Senator Gaya over the death of his wife.

Buhari, in a condolence message issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Friday, described the late Hajiya Gaya as a “remarkable woman, who dedicated herself to promoting education.’’

The president commended her investments in the establishment of private schools, adding, “it is a laudable initiative, which should be emulated by others.

“Education is the tool for modern development and no country can afford to ignore its vital role in our lives.

“My heart goes out to Sen. Gaya and the people of Kano State. May Allah grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss,’’ he said.
