The immediate-past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, is dead at 60.
A reliable family source confirmed the death to DAILY Watch Press, saying the former NNPC boss died on 29th May, 2020, from an undisclosed illness, at an Abuja hospital.
The death was confirmed by the current Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari Kolo who tweeted, “My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.”
Dr. Baru was born in Misau, Misau LGA, Bauchi State in July 1959 but, grew up in Jos, Plateau State. He is an Engineer by training, who rose through the ranks to became the 18th Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from July, 2016 to July, 2019 and he had previously served as the Group General Manager (GGM) of National Petroleum Investment Management Services, he equally at a time served as the anti corruption watch of the NNPC.
Baru is a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
