BREAKING: Kano Deputy Governor Resigns!

Kano State Deputy Governor, Hafiz Abubakar, has resigned his appointment.

The deputy governor in a letter addressed to the state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday, claimed that his resignation was necessary due to disrespect of his office and unjust treatment by the governor.

“I have endured immeasurable and unjustifiable humiliation for over two and a half years without any reason other than my principled position on the issues of governance and the desire to keep the government on track.

“Under the circumstances and given the deteriorating state of affairs and your continued disrespect for the office of the deputy governor as well as your expression of several injustices on my person. I regret to say that I have no option than to succumb to my inner calling,” his resignation letter read in part.

Abubakar in his resignation letter said he had desired to remain in office until the end of their tenure, but chose to resign due to irreconcilable differences with the governor.

“I would have desired to remain till the end of our tenure in order to fulfil the aspiration and expectations of the good people of Kano State as expressed in their mandate given to our joint ticket in 2015.

“But with the current and persistent irreconcilable difference on matters relating to governance and government operation, personal opinions and the respect for democratic ideals and values, it will be unfair to my conscience and to the good people of Kano State and to you as head of the government to continue to remain in my position as Deputy Governor of Kano State,” he said.

Earlier in the week, Abubakar had petitioned the police and State Security Service, (SSS), over threat to his life and plans by the state government to stage a rally against him.

Abubakar’s resignation comes a day after 30 members of the State Assembly signed an impeachment notice against him.

A new deputy governor may emerge soon as a meeting is currently ongoing between the executive, legislatures and other senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently holding behind closed door.
