The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for yesterday was abruptly cancelled and postponed till Monday next week.
The meeting, which comprises the vice president, the secretary to the government of the federation, the head of service and all the cabinet ministers, is usually presided over by the president.
Before it was cancelled, virtually all the ministers were already at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Some of the ministers sighted include that of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige; Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi; State for Environment, Amina Mohammed; State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachukwu; Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, among others.
However, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed, said the meeting was not cancelled; rather, it was postponed.
Mohammed, who spoke to the State House Correspondent shortly after the ministers got the hint of the shift, said the FEC meeting was postponed till next week Monday because there were some fallouts from the presentations made by the key ministers during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday which might distort the entire budget proposal if not resolved.
His words: “The meeting was not cancelled. It was postponed till Monday afternoon. The reason is that you know there was a meeting of the National Economic Council yesterday. At that meeting, many of the key cabinet members made presentations.
“There were some fallouts from those presentations that will necessitate going back to the original document that should have been discussed today. So we were given time between now and Monday to go and rejig our figures because when the NEC met, certain issues were thrown up that if they were not resolved, would distort the entire budget proposal. So we will all go back, each ministry will do its rejiging.”
