Yola—Adamawa State government has slammed a ban on night markets as part of measures to curb incessant bomb explosions which has in the past claimed several lives.

The measure was part of the resolutions adopted after a security meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla, following Tuesday’s bomb attack at tipper garage, along Jimeta bye pass.

Addressing journalists shortly after the security meeting, Governor Jibrilla pleaded with the marketers to bear with the government as the measure was taken in the interest of protecting innocent lives.

“Henceforth all markets in the state should not operate beyond 6:00pm. The measure is taken to safeguard lives and properties,” he said.

He said government was planning to convene a security summit where top security apparatchik in the country would be invited to address some of the thorny security matters in order to completely nip the security challenge in the bud.

Jibrilla reiterated that his government had been providing free medical attention to victims of the attack and ensuring availability of adequate drugs to the victims.

He added that the state government would also liaise with commercial banks and filling stations across the state to come up with modalities on how to secure their customers.

The governor also said that activities of social joints will be streamlined to ensure the protection of lives.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the blast has risen to 34, according to statistics released by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

NEMA Coordinator in Adamawa State, Alhaji Sa’ad Bello, told newsmen in Yola yesterday that eight children and six women were among the victims of the bomb blast.
