Eight out of 30 lawmakers in Benue State House of Assembly have served an impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Sabestian Hon confirmed this to Daily Correspondents in a telephone interview.
He said the policemen have taken over the assembly complex and stopped 22 other lawmakers loyal to Mr.Ortom from entering the premises.
The eight lawmakers have also taken over the premises of the state parliament with the support of the police,
Also speaking, Tahav Agerzua, a spokesperson for Mr Ortom said eight lawmakers have also taken over the premises of the state parliament with the support of the police,
“They have taken over the House of Assembly and served the governor an impeachment notice despite a court order forbidding them from doing so,” Mr Agerzua told Premium Times by telephone.
Mr Agerzua said George Akume, a former governor and an APC senator from Benue State, was the one who brought police officers from Abuja to attempt to use eight lawmakers to impeach a governor in a House of 30 lawmakers.
