The Secretary of Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Wakil MallamTawu, has denied the reportedt taking over of the Council Area following Boko Haram invasion on Saturday evening, insisting that it was a failed attempt on a military base by suspected group of insurgents who were repelled.

Magumeri is about 45 kilometer drive and north of Maiduguri, the state capital which had witnessed series of boko haram attacks including the abduction of NNPC staff and Lecturers at the Geology Department, University of Maiduguri during an ambush in a failed Oil exploration mission in the area couple of months ago.

Speaking with DAILY POST on Sunday on the incident which took place at about 5.30pm on Saturday, the Secretary said, only a teenage boy of four years old died, with two women and a young man sustaining injuries as a result of stray bullets.

“It is unfortunate that Magumeri came under attack by insurgents yesterday (Saturday Evening). Though the insurgents attempted to infiltrate a military base in the town, they were repelled by gallant troops with support from members of Civilian JTF.

“I am not in a position to tell you casualty either from the side of the troops or the insurgents, but one teenage boy was killed and two women including a young man were injured as a result of stray bullet exchange during the encounter.

“It will interest you to note that I am just coming from Magumeri to Maiduguri, and the situation is under control as people were going about their normal businesses.

“It is not true that the attackers have taken control of the town as been reported in some sections of the media,” Tawu stated.
